I'm pleased to report the 2nd bridge has now been repaired. Also, the 3rd bridge has seen some strengthening carried out. Luckily the costs amounted to nil thanks to our chairman, Terry, supplying the necessary materials.

Our resident swamp clearer, Richard "Swampy" Green, has been doing a remarkable job of draining the area near the zero range at Borthwood. It's always been a bit on the murky side but, when Richard set about digging a few channels and clearing the stream, we notice the ground has firmed up quite nicely. Well done Rich.

A very windy day at Meon Valley AGC FT Open Competition, last Sunday, 13th March, 2022. The course was quite long, consisting of 50 targets shot to BFTA rules (3 minutes per lane of 2 targets). I'm pleased to report the Carisbrooke Massif did rather well. Allan Dyke scored an amazing 39, just 3 targets behind the winner, and ex world FT champion, Dan Eley. Allan won the 'A' grade. Richard Wood, this time out with a pre-charged pneumatic he cobbled together a week before the shoot, won 'C' grade after a thrilling shoot off against another competitor who tied on the same score. Not to be outdone in the honours, our very own treasurer, Andy Winch, not only achieved 3rd in 'C' grade but also won an item in the free raffle. A great day out at a picturesque venue.

Here is a couple of pictures of the Borthwood Farm club house. Members and guests can shelter from inclement weather here while enjoying a free cup of tea/coffee from the kitchenette. This is where the world is put to rights with educated and informed discussion, and much mickey taking on why somebody missed that easy target. As you can see, the club has an air bottle where fills can be had at 50p a go.

Good to see club member Richard Green back on the scene. Richard was one of the original members of the outdoor airgun section of Carisbrooke Rifle and Pistol Club in the 1980's. Richard now shoots a Weihrauch HW97 in a superb home-made stock and is now competing as a spring gunner in the CSFTA winter league.

The Borthwood Farm section will be hosting their annual Christmas competition on Sunday, the 19th December. Just a bit of fun and banter to see who is top dog on the day, I expect the competitors will have a handicap added to their score, depending on their grading. Carisbrooke members only. Don't forget to bring a wrapped present for the secret Santa, nothing over £5 please.

Looks like tomorrow, Sunday the 28th November, 2021, is going to be a sunny day with a slight breeze. Interesting to see if Allan clears the course again.

Allan, Holly and I started clearing the undergrowth to make way for an extension to the zero range today. Quite hard going but I estimate we achieved 40 yards of clearance. We need some pallets to place over the muddy area's so keep a look out. Also, we need some metal for the zero boards unless you can think of an alternative substance.

Good to see the regional winter league up and running, last year's WL had to be cancelled due to the virus situation. My thoughts are with those who have suffered with this infection. However, the club has managed to field between 5 and 6 shooters in each round, a very good turnout for such a small club. Two of our members are currently lying 2nd and 3rd after 3 rounds, let's hope this continues.

Well folks, I have now moved back to the Island and am living in Ryde. I'm looking forward to popping down the club more often and mucking in with the maintenance work. I hope to catch up with everyone in the coming weeks.

Talking to a few shooters, they are eager for a CSFTA winter league series to commence this year. It would appear Meon Valley AGC, who have just re-joined the region and are predominantly HFT based, have put together an FT team in readiness. Do you think Carisbrooke will compete.

A new airgunsmith, based in southern Hampshire, has just opened for business. At present he is working from home. I can personally recommend his work, he conducted a major service on my HFT500, changing the seals and a few rounded off bolts, removing the anti-tampers, cleaning the innards of grease, etc., setting the power, amongst other things, all for just £50. He is in the process of setting up a dedicated email account, watch this space, but should you need his services his name is Vince Blackman, mobile number: 07901 863757 (prefer WhatsApp to contact so you get an instant reply) or just look him up on Facebook.

Many thanks to Judy Challender, our webmasters wife, who has taken over as club secretary. At a meeting on Sunday, 18th October, 2020, I decided to vacate the post of secretary after 3 years in the job. Judy was nominated and voted a.i.f. by the membership who were present. I expect you will be hearing from Judy in the near future.

Is it me or the rifle, I used to be reasonable at standing shots but lately I can't keep the gun still. Yes, I do have back problems and have tried everything, the muzzle just seems to follow a circle whenever on the target. My old Kalibrgun Cricket, being a bullpup, was excellent for standers.

Just found this picture on the CSFTA Facebook page. It shows the 2009 inter-regional team with our very own Andy Winch.

Thought I would share this write up of my Daystate Midas Bullpup. The article appeared in a 1997 "Shooting Sports" magazine of which my dear friend Pat Farey (now deceased), was the first editor. In those days Bullpups were rare. However, the gun was superbly accurate but must have been the loudest airgun on the planet, unfortunately many shooters complained about the noise and demanded it chronographed, of course it was perfectly legal. The electronic trigger was a bit hit and miss on occasions so, with these issues I regrettably decided to move it on. By the way, the action originally belonged to Tony Belas, now the manager at Daystate.

What hard times we are experiencing with the virus lockdown, or in Holly's case, lockjaw. What are you doing to entertain yourselves, I have just made a target to participate in the Polo Challenge. Basically you glue 10 polo mints to a good backstop at 25 yards, and attempt to shoot a pellet in the mint hole without shattering it. .22 owners will find this a tad tricky, lol.

Unfortunately the secretary, and committee, of the Sibden Road, Shanklin, range have decided to close the indoor range for the foreseeable future due to the virus. He advises anyone who has property on the premises to get in touch with a key holder to retrieve their possessions. Please be aware if using the Borthwood Farm range it's your responsibility to ensure your own safety, from the virus, when visiting.
