Thanks Si, the double header would be rather nice. Our landowner has agreed we could use the woods at the back of our usual area. Theoretically we could use both grounds to make an interesting double header.

I would never have believed opening a new tin of pellets, same size and make, would make such a difference. Yesterday, Wednesday, I shot a group at 55 yards with the old Air Arms pellets I had been using, only to see them form a rough group about 25mm below my usual zero point. So, I then opened a new tin but different batch, with the group now considerably tighter but still dropping 25mm. Testing was carried out in near windless conditions. The easiest fix was to remove the turret after adjusting for the drop, and place it into the new position. More testing on Sunday needed though.

Four of us had a "warm up" competition at the club yesterday (Sunday, 9th April) to acclimatise to BFTA GP rules. Strict observance to timing, target sequence etc., was observed. Yours truly managed to shoot a target out of sequence with much ribbing from the others, something to do with age was mentioned! After 34 targets on the west side of the course were shot, with Andy showing some exemplary form, we took a lunch break with more ribaldry while enjoying a cuppa. Another 32 targets beckoned on the east side of the course, this time the variable wind had shown up. However, Andy continued his good form and came joint first with Barry. A thoroughly enjoyable day with some great companions.

We had a good day at the Christmas competition, shame there weren't more shooters but daresay the prospect of having to walk down the field deterred many. Andy instigated a fun shoot where anyone could win, the rules were a bit complicated to post here, but enough to say that once you got your head around them, it made for a very pleasant, if tricky, alternative. The Secret Santa was pleasantly received with everyone ending up with a surprise present. These were unwrapped whilst enjoying a sausage roll, cheese slice, cakes, etc. Modesty forbids me to state who the winner was, ahem! PS We even managed to get Chairman Terry to have a go.

Round 2 of the winter league was hosted by us with a good turn out of competitors, about 30 I believe. The club did well with hot shot of the day, club member Allan Dyke, scoring a lucky 38, (no I'm not jealous). Other team members scores were: Barry Warren 33; Richard Green 31 and Andy Winch 27. I think we are doing quite well as a team. Here's to success in the next rounds.

As a small club, we had a good turn-out for the first round of the Winter League at Frobury, with 5 shooters attending. We assumed it was going to be a rather damp day when turning up at the ferry terminal indeed, this continued until the start of the competition. Luckily the gods were on our side and it turned into a very nice day. Frobury is quite a challenging club ground, you have to scale a steep hill before entering the woods. However, once you have your breath back, the course was well thought out with targets at almost every angle you could think of with about 10 targets in an open field. The club did well with Barry Warren on 37, Allan Dyke on 34, Richard Green on 30 and Andy Winch on 22. Holly scored a 26 in Open Class. The next round, on the 23rd October, will be at our club, Carisbrooke.

Well, we came, we saw, we failed to conquer! Personally, I had only missed 2 targets half way round. Then, going up the hill in the middle of the woods, the wheels fell off. One lane was set by a right hander which, being a lefty, meant having to get up and reposition for the second target. Another lane was so steep I found it hard to keep upright without falling backwards. The black targets were a nightmare to range on too. However, overall, it was a good shoot with a lot of work gone into it.
