Andy has had some trouble bringing his scores up . he has bought a good springer to work on his technique . so i said to him why not try my wifes Steyr as she is not out at this time of year shooting . he said he will give it a try . so today i shot it to zero with my spare lupe . sunday i will mark up the top turret . he knows the ranges to most of the targets so he won't need to range find with a strange scope . just dial up the range on the top turret . we will see how he gets on . Well that did not work out as andy did not get on with the Steyr ??? HOLLY
Best laid plans, etc.
Its me that has the problem not the Steyr or any other rifle. I am not getting my head in the right same place every time. May get a few in a row then one flys off somewhere either high or low. On the 55 yd board I can get 3-4 shots touching with either my Ripper, the Steyr or the HW97 off the bench in the right conditions, then the flyer appears.
That is the reason for the springer. Go back to basics and learn again. Using a PCP for so long means I have got lazy, so a springer needs to be 'worked' with more so that means getting the basics right, which should then lead to better shooting with a PCP.
Yes I have got older and the right knee is preventing me enjoying kneeler because itjhust does not bend any more. What I need to do is exercise, stretch those leg muscles a bit more and practice shooting rather than everything else I do.
@Andrew Winch I used to put a small pin into the stock of my gc2 . positioned so that it just fitted between my lips . this told me that my head was in exactly the right position each time i took a shot . HOLLY
Send him to Oaktree for a training day.
Strange really . cos andy a few years back was winning things . yes a bit older and a bit more to love so to speak . he cannot do kneelers but even so to be in the low twenties consistently is not right . he should be hovering around thirty at least . he has got a 97 with a venom kit in it . and is going back to basics . says he will do the GPs with it . PS will send him to Oaktree Simon as long as you promise to keep him .
Andy will start to enjoy shooting more with the 97, sense of achievement when targets go down, you know you did your bit right. PCP's so more forgiving and dare i say, simple. and sometimes boring.
Only boring if you don't miss. Sense of bemusement if I hit things with a springer, just not reliable enough.
Must say my Walther LGV is superb, mind you it's been SFS tuned.
OK bring it over next time out and it will be me and melv against , you , andy and richard . puff V spring . and let the best man win . or is it just talk ??? HOLLY
A springer at the club is one thing but on a GP course is another >
well been using it all winter league, only problems been are all scope related, top turret come loose, then turn out after ditching large turret, then random poi when adjusted to longer ranges, put my old T40 on, went to set it up this morning and not enough adjustments in windage and elevation to bring on zero. got to use sportsmatch mounts, oh the trials and tribulations of out shooting Holly.
You also been reading Holly's book of excuses Keith.
@Barry Warren When you borrowed it last i photocopied it whilst you were not looking,
i use height adjustable sportsmatch Mounts Keith for my ultra high scope . i know money is hard to come by , but the new Falcon X is by far the best ranging scope i have looked through . i hope th springer works out for andy . but i have my doubts ??? HOLLY
keep hearing glowing reports about the X50, yet to look through one but when the time comes we shall see, if it ain't broke make do, thats me.
One down the club , i like to range and shoot on the same mag if i can . plus i like it to be the lowest mag poss . this one ranges spot on , on thirty mag not just to 55 yards . but further . not had a lot of time with it . but if i was not buying the vulcan ( if it ever gets here ) then i would have one tomorrow . nice very nice ?
